We’re a couple of weeks into the New Year and there’s one thing most of us can agree on - we’d sure like it to be better than last year. But will it? <ul><li>Usually you give us a short term look at what’s happening with the markets and economy as a whole but once a year, you put out your 10 predictions for the coming 12 months. We’ll get to those in a moment but can you first help us understand what happened in 2022?</li><li>Let’s get into those predictions. Your theme for 2023 is “the Fed calls the shots.” Your first prediction is that the U.S experiences a shallow recession as real GDP is in the bottom ten of last 50 years. Can you talk about that?</li><li>Prediction number 2 is that inflation falls substantially, but remains above Fed’s target. Why do you think inflation will ease up?</li><li>Third is that Fed funds reach 5% and remain there for the balance of the year. What will that mean?</li><li>Prediction number 4 is that earnings will fall short of expectations in 2023. Why is that?</li><li>Fifth is that no major asset class goes up or down by a double-digit percentage for only the fourth time this century. What will that look like?</li><li>Prediction number 6 looks at “winners and losers.” What do you have for us there?</li><li>7th is a really interesting prediction - the average active equity manager beats the index in 2023 and that’s often not the case. Why do you think that?</li><li>Looking globally now, prediction number 8 is that international stocks will outperform the U.S. for the second year in a row. What so?</li><li>9th, India will surpass China as the world’s largest population and is the fastest growing large economy. Is that because of China’s zero-tolerance policy for COVID?</li><li>Switching to politics for prediction number 10, a double-digit number of candidates will announce for President in 2023.
