Your Rest Matters Too
Not only does your work matter to God, so does your rest. After concluding His Creation masterpiece, God rested from His work. When we indwell creation design, we work in God’s way, but we also rest in God’s way. The work-and-rest rhythm built into creation design is so crucially important that God emphasizes it in the Ten Commandments. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.”

Honoring a weekly Sabbath is a vital spiritual discipline for any follower of Jesus and an important gift for human flourishing.

I regret that for many years I dismissed the goodness and importance of a weekly Sabbath day. I now believe honoring a weekly Sabbath is a vital spiritual discipline for any follower of Jesus and an important gift for human flourishing.

Are you building into your life a weekly Sabbath? Carving out a weekly Sabbath day may seem far-fetched, foreign, and virtually impossible in light of your many life and demanding work responsibilities. Yet, making a weekly Sabbath a high priority is perhaps what you may need most to truly flourish in the midst of a busy and often distracted life.

A weekly Sabbath day is acarved-out space for delight and celebration, restoring your soul and fostering intimacy with God and others. It will slow down a too-fast pace, establish a healthier life pattern, and make those relationships closest to you a higher priority. It will also enhance your trust in God for His care and provision. A weekly Sabbath is one of God’s greatest gifts. Will you receive and enjoy this gift?
